Flaming Abundance was born as I cried out to God from a little wooden bench in my need. It’s then He roared like a lion within me, sending out His living Word to defend, restore and redeem. He quieted me by His love, exulted over me with loud singing (Zephaniah 3:17) and reminded my soul of its worth.
The words that poured forth on my page became a waterfall of grace, as God entered my fears, pain and shame, leading me from lament to praise through His Word.
The poems that grace this space are God’s gift that have kept on giving, long after they were written. With each new season, my Savior continues to illuminate new facets of His love and mercy that meet me, right where I am, and lead me forth into more and more abundance.
This abundance has come through a painful burning away. But in the pain of the flame, God has uncovered my true yearning for Him. He has healed wounds, redeemed the pain of my past and restored me unto Himself, again and again, taking me deeper and deeper.
As I share some of the poems God has gifted me here, my prayer is that He will meet each one of us afresh each time, myself included. Will you join me in prayer today?
Father God, we thank You that You are here with us. We thank You that You have never and will never leave or forsake us, no matter how far we have wandered away. We thank You for Your mercy and Your kindness to us. We thank You for the power of the Cross, for the life of Jesus at work in us.
As we reach out through this screen to take ahold of each others’ hands, will you pour out Your Spirit in our midst? Will You free the cries buried deep within our hearts?
Even if it hurts, we invite You to burn away fear, shame and pain to reveal the shoots of Your beautiful abundance beneath. And there in the wastelands and desert of our hearts, release the waterfall of Your grace upon us.
Defend our hearts, restore us unto Yourself and redeem all that the accuser has stolen from us and our loved ones, oh LORD. For, we believe Your Word is alive and active, steadfast and true. We believe all Your Promises to us are yes and Amen!
And You have promised us that:
The Lord will surely comfort Zion
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
Isaiah 51:3 NIV
We praise You for the comfort and compassion You have shown us in the past and continue to hold out to us daily. Help us to receive You. Birth joy and gladness, thanksgiving and the sound of singing from within us this very day, as we remind our souls to bless Your Name and forget not Your many benefits. Amen.
Will you join me in praising Jesus today? This was my favorite song after my Mum left for heaven, after her five-month battle with brain cancer. It reminds me so much of God’s powerful presence at work in her. The more the cancer stole of her human strength, the more palpable and powerfully present the Spirit of God became in her. So, no matter what we are facing today, let’s give our God the glory and expect Him to pour out His Spirit upon us. For oh how we loves us!
